The Cardiac National Clinical Network is committed to improving heart care and outcomes for all communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.
About the Cardiac National Clinical Network
The network puts equity at the centre of its work and applies it across all areas to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Significant differences exist in heart care access and outcomes. This is especially true for Māori and Pacific peoples, who are less likely to receive proper diagnosis and treatment.
The network focuses on what it can achieve in the current environment. Initial focus areas include:
- building regional cardiac networks
- setting national performance indicators
- deciding where cardiac surgery is placed in networks
- reducing unfair differences in heart failure management
- identifying barriers to ECHO access
- reviewing patient triage and follow-up criteria
- reviewing aortic stenosis guidelines
- assessing current cardiovascular services
- updating the CVD risk assessment and treatment guidance.
