If your cervical screen test shows an abnormal result, you may be referred to colposcopy for assessment and examination. This involves a vaginal and cervical examination with a speculum and a close look at the cervix with a colposcope.

Services we provide

You will be referred to colposcopy if you:

  • have had HPV 16/18 detected
  • have had HPV other detected twice and you are over 50
  • have had HPV other detected 3 times and you are under 50
  • have had cytology screening that is ASC-H or greater
  • are immunosuppressed with a result of HPV other. 

The colposcopy department provides:

  • colposcopy assessment
  • treatment of abnormal cervical cells
  • post-treatment follow up.

Lletz treatments are completed in our outpatient clinic under a local anaesthetic. Sometimes a general anaesthetic is recommended. You will have this done in the operating theatre. Appointments are in high demand.
